This summer I decided to make good use of my free time and go
volunteering. I wasn’t initially planning on going abroad but after some
research I discovered that opportunities are endless. International
workcamps are a great way to travel at a small
expense because you just have to pay for transportation. And then you
only have to pick and choose where you want to go ! You could help
elders in a small Japanese community or go build a well for a month in
Africa. Those are the more extravagant projects.
Of course there are many camps in Europe that are very appealing. The
purpose of a volunteering camp is to do community work but also to meet
new people and overall have fun. I chose to help in a longboard camp for
a week in the countryside of Slovenia. It
was amazing ! I met so many different people from all over the world
that I would never have talked to otherwise. I discovered a new sport:
longboarding and the community around it which is very welcoming. In
conclusion, if you want to expand your horizons,
volunteering is the way to go !
